Just like everywhere around in Malaysia, self service coin operated laundry franchises are opening shop in Bukit Beruntung area. There’s probably around 4 opened already.
One franchise called BubbleLab stands among the others, they seem to be having good business even during the Hari Raya holiday season.

I believe BubbleLab stands out as the facilities they have is quite complete. Normal coin operated laundries just offer free WiFi, comfortable sofa, paid food and drinks. BubbleLab bring it one level up by building a kids playpen inside the shop. This attracts lots of families. The Dad can be surfing internet on his smartphone, The Mom can be using the massage chair or gossiping with the other ladies and children can hang out at the playpen. This setting works because Bukit Beruntung is a Malay heartland area where the family size is quite big and all activities are done together as a family. So while doing laundry, everyone in the family got something to do. Just by offering free Wifi is insufficient.

This is a sign of things to come. The next version of coin operated laundries will be almost like a hotel. Maybe throw in a few movies, cybercafe computers, play station consoles, skill training lessons and everything will be complete. Washing clothes will be secondary. The key is to make the customers so comfortable that they don’t want to leave and continue using your facilities.
